Learning a new language is hard. I know that because I'm taking Spanish now and it's not easy. I started learning English in Taiwan when I was in the first grade. I learned about alphabet and vowels. It looks like it didn't take me too long to remember all the alphabet, because I remember my ABCs by listening to the alphabet song. The alphabet song helps me a lot because after listening to the song for few times, the song stuck in my head and I can't forget it. So I guess I am a auditory learning because I learn better by reading and listening.
Some people say kids learn language faster than adults, I don't agree with that because the reason why they learn faster is because first, they may have expose to the language in daily life from a young age. Second, they are not afraid of making mistakes in front of other by saying different languages. You might argue that young kids' learn faster than adults because so many research proved it. You are probably right because according to Dr. Paul Thompson's research. After the age of 11, brain responsible for language acquisition stop growing and learning a new language becomes more difficult.
Do you think learning a new language is hard? If you can learn a new language, what language will you choose?

Hey Brian, I agree with you that learning a new language is hard, I had to take spanish, which beside taking three years, got kinda easier. However, you said that kids learn languages faster than adults, I won't say I disagree, but like most things, the idea that kids learn faster does not cover every little thing that could impact a kid's ability or willingness to learn a foreign language.

Hi Brian,
I agree learning a language is hard especially if you have not been learning it your whole life. When I took German for two years I would study for long periods of time to remember the material but would seem to gain nothing from the studying. I personally think that if I had started learning the language when I was younger that I would have done better in the class. I also think that if I had chosen another language rather than German in high school that is seen more often in our society it would have been easier to learn.
Hey Brian! Learning a new language is difficult. People say English is one of the easiest languages to learn because it takes parts from others and has easier grammar. I also heard that some elementary schools have there students take a second language just for the that reason that you mention, on how children learn languages better than adults. What other challenges did you face coming to a new country when you knew little of the language. Was it harder than you though it'll be? Very nice post Brian. Keep up the terrific work.
